Jennifer joined the Residential Team in our Helensburgh office in 2021. She brings with her over 25 years of experience in conveyancing and private client work, including all aspects of property sales and purchases, re-mortgages, transfers of title, wills, estate administration and powers of attorney. With a client centred approach, attention to detail and personable nature, Jennifer endeavours to provide a positive client experience throughout each stage of the process.

Cara is a Senior Associate in BTO’s clinical defence team which is ranked Band 1 by Chambers UK and The Legal 500.She has practised exclusively in this area of law since qualifying as a solicitor in 2010.

Cara assists in representing doctors and dentists at fitness to practise proceedings before the General Medical Council and General Dental Council, and representing medical professionals in clinical negligence claims brought in the Sheriff Court and Court of Session. She has also provided assistance at Fatal Accident Inquiries and Public Inquiries.

Sharon Dock is a paralegal in the Property and Real Estate Department. She has worked for BTO since July 2001 and holds a Certificate of Professional Development in advanced Conveyancing Practice.

With almost 20 years’ experience, Sharon has a clear understanding of housing legislation and the title issues which arise in mixed tenure estates which enables her to provide clear, concise advice to the firm’s Social Housing clients.

In addition. Sharon has years of experience in dealing with land sales, servitudes and undertaking complex remedial conveyancing arising out of Large Scale Voluntary Transfer of housing stock to Registered Social Landlords from Local Authorities and assisting with security work for Social Housing clients.

Laura is an experienced Partner with her key area of expertise being clinical defence.

She is ranked in band 1 by Chambers UK for clinical negligence work and is described as "a formidable opponent" who "fights her client's corner very hard."  She has "unsurpassed knowledge of the Scottish medical scene" as is a "supremely well-organised" practitioner. 

Laura has vast experience of representing the interests of various clinicians in actions of negligence, at the GMC, GDC and at Fatal Accident Inquiries throughout Scotland. She has been applauded for her “negotiation skills and pragmatism” and her “ability to grasp the issues in complex cases” is admired (Legal 500). Her particular interest is in representing clinicians before the GMC and the GDC, where she acts as junior counsel in representing their interests. Her "dynamic preparation" before a case and her passionate defence are prominent characteristics of her work (Chambers UK).

In addition to clinicians, Laura has represented Solicitors, Accountants and Healthcare professionals in cases brought by their regulatory bodies. Fitness to practise proceedings against medical students is an area of growing experience.

Laura has also been instructed to represent individuals, and groups of individuals at three recent Scottish Public Inquiries, appearing as junior counsel in one, whilst juggling the demands of the large volume of paperwork involved.

Robert is a Solicitor, based in our prestigious Edinburgh office specialising in Employment law. Since qualifying in October 2022, Robert has garnered extensive experience in litigated matters within the employment tribunal jurisdiction, making him an invaluable asset to our growing Employment Unit.

Robert began his career as a Claimant-only solicitor, providing a unique perspective in truly understanding disputes from both perspectives. Through dedicated practice, he has honed his skills to become a pragmatic and informed practitioner in the field of employment law.

In his current capacity, Robert serves as a trusted advisor to both Employers and Employees, offering comprehensive guidance on various matters. His proficiency extends from purely pursuing or defending litigated claims to negotiating mediated settlements, providing clients with alternative avenues for resolution in a cost-effective manner.

Robert's commitment to excellence is evident in his contributions, including drafting employment law updates and articles to keep clients well-informed. Prior to joining our firm, Robert pursued his legal education at the University of Strathclyde having previously enjoyed a career in management. In his spare time Robert regularly provides free time to several good causes and charities including those advocating for the enhancement of care experienced young adults and their pathways to education/employability.

Lucy is a solicitor and Notary Public within BTO’s Dispute Resolution Department based in Glasgow.

Lucy qualified in mid-2020 into a serious injury and medical negligence position. Prior to moving to BTO, Lucy worked in Edinburgh for a large firm specialising in civil litigation.

Lucy has experience of dealing with litigated cases, representing both pursuers and defenders, within the Scottish Courts.

Lucy is excited about a move into commercial litigation where she will support the team in representing a range of business and private clients.

Alastair practices in corporate and commercial law, acting for a range of well-established clients including national and international organisations, owner-managed companies, entrepreneurs, funders, shareholder groups and investors.

His approach in every transaction is to provide "added value" over and above the legal process involved by understanding and anticipating his clients’ needs and aspirations and by delivering clear advice in a user friendly and effective manner.

Alastair’s practice covers sales and acquisitions, investment and banking work, company disputes and ongoing advice and assistance to a number of large scale concerns.

External Appointments

Adviser to, and Director of, EB Scotland Limited (which spends landfill tax credit money in respect of environmentally enhancing activities throughout Scotland). Alastair’s role involves appraising projects that improve the amenity or environment of areas in Scotland and making sure that the projects qualify under legislation. He has presented a number of seminars both to the business community and to fellow lawyers.
