We have exciting opportunities for junior solicitors to work within our ‘Legal 500 Tier 1’ rated Personal Injury team, based in either Glasgow or Edinburgh.

The roles will support the Personal Injury team in dealing with the defence of a wide range of personal injury claims on behalf of a number of leading insurer clients.  The workload will include motor, EL and PL and potentially disease claims, depending on experience.  There will also be the opportunity to assist senior team members on more complex and higher value cases.

Some experience of court appearance work is preferred.  This role will include the preparation and conduct of contentious hearings on the solicitor’s own cases and for the claims handling team.

Candidates must have excellent client care skills, the ability to work in a team orientated environment, as well as independently, have high levels of initiative and motivation and attention to detail on both the legal and reporting aspects of the role.

You will have experience in a similar role within a legal firm and will be familiar with cash room functions including allocating client funds, processing payments, bank reconciliations, managing client outlays, supplier invoices and general finance duties. A strong level of numeracy and an attention to detail is essential. This is a busy office and flexibility to perform a variety of finance admin functions to support the team is necessary. A working knowledge of 3E or similar practice management system would be an advantage.

Position: Solicitor (1-3 years PQE) – Regulatory and Criminal Defence 

Location: Glasgow

We have an exciting opportunity for a Solicitor 1-3 years PQE to join BTO’s top tier Regulatory and Criminal Defence team in Glasgow.  This role will involve a range of matters including providing advice, assistance and representation in connection with investigations by the Health and Safety Executive and other regulatory bodies, the defence of health and safety/environmental prosecutions, Fatal Accident Inquiries, Road Traffic Cases and general criminal case work.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Attendance at interviews by police, HSE and other regulatory bodies;
  • Preparation and investigation of cases, including attending incidents, client sites and loci meeting key decision makers and witnesses as part of investigating and building a successful defence strategy;
  • Being involved in the negotiating of pleas in health and safety/criminal matters where required;
  • Being part of the team building cases for trial and appearing in courts throughout Scotland;
  • Receive and respond to requests for legal advice from current and potential clients and other BTO colleagues;
  • Prepare high quality reports to clients, written submissions, court documents, and letters; and
  • Being involved in business development and training seminars for clients,

 

The successful candidate will have experience in appearing in criminal courts, either in prosecution or defence, excellent relationship and client handling skills and be able to deal confidently and professionally with clients in order to gain and maintain their confidence.

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and organised individual to provide support within our busy litigation team based in Glasgow city centre.

As a Debt Recovery Paralegal, you will work closely with other paralegals and solicitor fee earners, handling your own debt recovery cases on behalf of a wide range of commercial clients. Candidates must have a working knowledge of Sheriff Court documents and procedures including all types of enforcement action. Knowledge of housing association tenancy cases is desirable although not essential.

You should have first-rate interpersonal skills and be able to work to strict deadlines. Ideal candidates should have at least 3 years’ experience in a similar role and will have the ability to work, using case management systems on a caseload of matters from receipt of the initial instructions to enforcement and completion with minimal supervision.

An opportunity has arisen for an Office Services Manager to manage the Administration and Reception functions in BTO’s Edinburgh office, ensuring delivery of a high level of service to colleagues and clients.

The successful candidate will support our Facilities Manager by ensuring that the Edinburgh office premises are kept in a good state of repair and comply with Health and Safety regulations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Line management responsibility for the office’s Administration and Reception staff (currently two members of staff), including training and development of staff and conducting performance reviews
  • Managing and assisting with the provision of the Administration and Reception functions in the office to ensure a timely and high level of service is provided to colleagues and clients
  • Arranging business travel bookings, training courses, etc. as required
  • Reviewing office policies and procedures on an ongoing basis, with a view to making recommendations on potential improvements/cost efficiencies
  • Assisting the Facilities Manager by managing/organising the day-to-day ordering and provision of services and supplies from external service providers/suppliers
  • Arranging routine maintenance and utilities servicing, in conjunction with the Facilities Manager, and maintaining service schedules
  • Acting as one of the Edinburgh office key holders and out of hours contacts for our intruder alarm monitoring company
  • Ensuring that office security is maintained and that any issues are resolved urgently
  • Assisting the Facilities Manager with the organisation and implementation of any works in the office, changes to the office/desk layouts, and any ad hoc projects as required
  • Developing and maintaining good working relationships with BTO Partners and staff (specifically those in the Edinburgh office) and the building manager and building reception team in Edinburgh
  • Any other reasonable requests as required

 

Essential knowledge, skills and experience required include: 

  • Line management experience
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Experience of providing professional administrative support
  • Excellent organisation skills, with the ability to juggle a variety of tasks, often within tight timescales
  • High level of attention to detail, and high level of accuracy
  • Excellent customer service / support skills and a real team player and problem solver
