BTO cleans up - Turning ESG commitment into action

At BTO, we are committed to making a positive impact on the environment, society and governance and this is reflected in the choices we make as a business.

At BTO, we are working towards Net Zero by 2035 through indirect means such as sustainable procurement, energy and travel. Through our firm-wide volunteering scheme, all of our colleagues are entitled to a paid half day each year to volunteer or fundraise for causes that matter to them, including projects which complement our work towards Net Zero by helping protect the environment.

This winter, BTO colleagues wrapped up warm and headed out to Troon and Cramond beaches to clean up litter, helping to protect and enhance the marine and coastal environment.

On the east coast, Will Cole, BTO’s Sustainability Partner, was joined by colleagues from our Edinburgh office – Paul Motion, Wendy Thomson, Ian McCann, Heather Brand, Susan Knowles, Ann Seed and Rachel Gold – at Cramond beach. Will said:

Initiatives such as beach clean ups are an important aspect of how we interact with the communities we work in. They allow us to contribute directly to the improvement of the natural environment of those communities. We all found it very positive and rewarding to get out of the office and spend a sunny winter’s morning working together to help make Cramond even more beautiful.

Meanwhile, on the west coast, colleagues from our Glasgow office – Mark Morton, Stephen Bryceland, Claire White, Tim Webster, Yvonne Stewart, Fiona Bell and Allison Hewitt — received some fantastic feedback from Troon Litter Team:

A brilliant bunch of people from BTO Solicitors LLP in Glasgow were down on the beach (and), despite the chilly breeze, collected 18 bags of rubbish, so it was definitely a worthwhile morning. They plan to come back early next year, and we are delighted to support them.
