Wendy Thomson

Wendy is a Partner and Solicitor Advocate with Civil rights of audience before the Court of Session and UK Supreme Court.

She has over 25 years’ experience as a litigation solicitor and 20 years’ experience as a Solicitor Advocate.

Throughout her career Wendy has specialised in civil and commercial dispute resolution, acting for clients ranging from individuals and small businesses to large PLCs and insurers in cases involving commercial and property disputes, insolvency, product liability and all types of insurance litigation.

Presently, she deals with a wide range of complex cases for insurers and medical defence unions. She heads our top ranked Personal Injury team and within that she leads our highly regarded specialist Occupational Disease team. Her expertise includes employers’ liability, public liability, road traffic accidents, fatal accidents, product liability, historic abuse and professional negligence.

As a practising Solicitor Advocate, Wendy appears on behalf of clients in the Court of Session, as well as in Sheriff Courts. She regularly acts as sole Counsel in complex cases and successfully negotiates settlement of many cases.

Wendy is known for being pragmatic and commercial as well as being user friendly for her clients.

Experience

• Successfully defending a leisure industry client at Proof in a claim involving an accident which occurred in the workplace, but was found not to be in the course of employment.
• Securing abandonment at the doors of court of an employer’s liability claim where complex injuries had been sustained after a fall in the workplace.
• Securing abandonment of product liability claims against manufacturers of a product alleged to have caused  serious personal injuries to a number of users.
• Acting for a GP in connection with a claim in connection with alleged clinical negligence resulting in death.
