17 February 2014
Our first charity event for Friends of the Beatson took place on St. Valentine's Day, Friday 14th February.
The charity bake sale has proved very successful over a number of years since our first bake sale for the Eve Appeal at bto back in 2011. Organiser Alison Hepburn puts its appeal down to the fact that everyone gets involved and enjoys the ‘rewards’:
“It doesn’t take much effort and everyone is encouraged to participate. Also it really brings everyone at bto together”.
Well it certainly does bring people together as there were queues building up at 10am on the Friday waiting for the cake sale to open. All the bto bakers did themselves proud, with cakes and biscuits of all shapes, sizes and colours, adorning the presentation suite tables.
Agnes and Linda have also spent the past couple of weeks, on their travels around the bto offices, selling the charity raffle tickets. It hasn’t been a hard sell though, with first prize being dinner for two people at the Tempus Restaurant at the Grand Central Hotel.
When all the buying, tasting, and more buying were done, the charity raffle was drawn.
We raised a terrific £1,003.82 in total. (£513.40 from the sale of the raffle tickets and £490.42 from the bake sale). All proceeds going to a fabulous charity Friends of the Beatson.
A big thank you to everyone who took part, especially the cake bakers, the raffle ticket sellers, our raffle prize sponsors, and to our CSR Committee for the great organisation of the event.
A very special thanks to Alison Hepburn in the bto Litigation department for giving up her free time to organise this event and making it the great success that it was.
