A New Addition to BTO’s In-house ADVantage Advocacy Team

02 August 2024

We are delighted to announce that Aaron Kane, an Associate in our Dispute Resolution team, has become a Civil Solicitor Advocate with extended rights of audience, following an admissions ceremony in Edinburgh before Lord Lake, a Court of Session judge.

As a civil Solicitor Advocate Aaron is now qualified to represent clients alongside Advocates in the Court of Session, the UK Supreme Court and the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council.

Aaron commented on his achievement saying:

“It was an honour and a privilege being admitted as a solicitor advocate this week. I can’t wait to start cutting my teeth.

“None of this would have been possible without the support of BTO, and in particular, Grant Hunter, Angus Wood, and Paul Motion, to whom I am eternally grateful.”

Grant Hunter, Managing Partner, said:

“Being a Solicitor Advocate gives Aaron another dimension to his practice and enhances the firm’s offering to clients who prefer to rely on BTO for representation throughout the Courts in Scotland.

“The number of BTO Solicitor Advocates across Civil and Criminal now stands at 14, underlining the strength and depth of the expertise within our firm across all forms of dispute resolution.”

BTO Partner Paul Motion, Advanced Civil Advocacy Course Convener, added:

“Congratulations to Aaron and all the successful candidates. It is good to see the number of Scottish solicitor advocates increasing as this provides the market with the widest possible choice of representation”.

Aaron’s qualification comes just a few months after Lindsay MacNeill, a Partner in our Regulatory and Criminal Defence team, also became a Criminal Solicitor Advocate with extended rights of audience. Lindsay is now qualified to represent clients alongside Advocates in the High Court of Justiciary and the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council.

On behalf of #TeamBTO, congratulations to both Aaron and Lindsay on their achievements!
