The healthcare sector is mostly celebrated for healing and saving lives but it occasionally finds itself in the midst of controversies that shine a spotlight on systemic issues and management failures. The recent conviction and sentencing of former neonatal nurse, Lucy Letby, has ignited a discourse about accountability within the NHS and the responsibilities of senior managers at the Trust where she worked.
In the first of its kind, the world’s greatest cyclists came together to compete in one ‘mega event’ in Glasgow at the UCI Cycling World Championships 2023. The Championships covered a variety of disciplines between the track, road and cross-country. Some events were more familiar than others. I, for one, had never heard of artistic cycling before, nor indeed cycle-ball. The skills on display were impressive.

In the almost 30 years since the introduction of protocols for personal injury claims, voluntary then compulsory, pursuers and defenders alike have often accused each other of failing to act “within the spirit” of the applicable protocol. The well-worn issue was raised again in two recently published – on 27 July - decisions from the All-Scotland Sheriff Personal Injury Court (“ASPIC”), both of which came before Sheriff Campbell.
