Risk and Compliance Advisor
Location: Glasgow (hybrid)
Hours: Full Time (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm)
We are seeking an experienced Risk and Compliance Advisor to join our Compliance team within a leading legal firm.
This is a key role supporting the firm’s commitment to the highest standards of regulatory compliance, professional conduct, and risk management.
The successful candidate will play a central role in the new business intake process, ensuring compliance with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations, financial sanctions, and conflicts of interest requirements. Working closely with partners, fee-earners, and business services teams, you will provide practical, risk-based advice that enables the firm to take on work confidently and responsibly.
This is a highly visible, hands-on position requiring strong technical knowledge, excellent judgement, and the confidence to engage with senior stakeholders across the firm.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Conducting customer due diligence (CDD) and AML reviews on new and existing clients and matters, including assessment of AML, bribery, sanctions, and reputational risks
- Assessing identity documentation in line with firm policy, AML legislation, and best practice
- Accurately recording client and matter risk information in the firm’s risk assessment systems
- Preparing detailed written risk assessments, including technical analysis of money laundering, bribery, sanctions, reputational, sectoral, and jurisdictional risks, with reference to FATF typologies
- Drafting comprehensive escalations to the MLRO and Compliance Manager, including legal analysis on risk appetite and potential reporting obligations
- Undertaking ongoing monitoring and periodic file reviews of existing client relationships
- Managing online client verification processes (including Amiqus) and progressing new business instructions
- Advising matter teams on identified risks, clearance conditions, and ongoing compliance requirements
- Responding to general AML and conflicts queries and liaising directly with partners on complex issues
- Reviewing conflicts management systems to identify, assess, and resolve conflicts of interest and confidentiality issues
- Delivering training and raising awareness of AML, conflicts, and compliance best practice across the firm
- Supporting the implementation and continuous improvement of AML/ABC policies and processes
- Assisting with AML investigations and supporting the preparation of Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs)
- Participating in compliance-related projects, including system rollouts and process enhancements
- Providing clear, practical risk and compliance advice to the partnership on new business instructions
The successful candidate will have a strong background in anti-money laundering and conflicts management, a keen eye for detail, and excellent analytical skills, as well as demonstrate an ability to confidently handle low to medium complexity matters with minimal supervision. They will also be competent in handling more complex financial crime and risk matters. It is essential that candidates have an understanding of the relevant compliance rules and regulations, the risks associated with high-risk jurisdictions, politically exposed persons, regulated and non-regulated activities, and the methods used to facilitate money laundering.
If you are a highly motivated and skilled risk and compliance professional, we would love to hear from you.
