Jaimie is a Senior Solicitor in BTO’s highly ranked Regulatory and Criminal Defence team [Crime Firm of the Year 2023] and is a ‘Recommended Lawyer’ in Health & Safety by The Legal 500.

Jaimie investigates and prepares complex cases, including Health & Safety, Corporate, Financial and General Crime, Fatal Accident Inquiries and Regulatory prosecutions, across a wide range of industry sectors.

She appears regularly in the Sheriff Court representing clients in criminal matters at both summary and solemn level and frequently represents clients in Fatal Accident Inquiries.

Jaimie is also an NMC Registered Midwife and has over 13 years of experience practising in a variety of frontline NHS maternity services. This experience has provided her with a unique perspective on matters with a medical or healthcare component and an understanding of how health and safety operates in practice.

Jaimie has a particular interest in advising and representing medical professionals in criminal and regulatory matters and uses her previous experience to quickly develop an empathetic and supportive rapport with clients, some of whom face potentially career ending allegations.

Experience

  • Successful High Court Appeal against a Sentence of imprisonment for a client accused of causing Serious Injury by Dangerous Driving.
  • Securing an acquittal for a GP accused of sexual assault and breaching data protection law.
  • Professional Client was admonished in an unprecedented High Court result following a charge of Death by Death Driving which was successfully reduced to Careless Driving.
  • Successfully persuading the Crown to drop proceedings against a client charged with Dangerous Driving.
  • Acting for a family run Hotel in a Health & Safety prosecution following the death of guest. The case was brought on Indictment, but the Sheriff disposed of the case with a summary level fine.
  • Successfully negotiating a charge of Death by Dangerous Driving to Death by Careless Driving.
  • Acting for an Army Officer in a complex FAI into the death of a soldier who was fatally injured on a sniper training course.
  • Appearing on behalf of a Care Home at a Fatal Accident Inquiry into the death of a resident with no adverse findings made against the client.
