Caroline has been a Partner in BTO since 2000 and has performed senior internal roles for many years, whilst successfully leading the firm’s highly regarded Employment Law team. In April 2024, Caroline was elected by her fellow partners to the role of the Chair of BTO.
She retains a client facing role in our Employment Law team. whilst also undertaking firmwide leadership responsibilities as BTO’s Chair. Caroline will, with the Management Board, play an important role in shaping the firm’s strategic direction over the coming years.
Caroline has been ranked as an employment lawyer in Chambers UK for almost two decades. She is also one of a handful of employment lawyers who has been externally accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a Specialist in Employment Law for over 20 years.
Caroline advises both businesses and individuals/executives on the full spectrum of issues – whistleblowing, disciplinary/grievances, redundancy/restructures, managing exits/protected conversations, unfair dismissal, breach of contract and discrimination/equality claims – and is known for achieving successful outcomes.
Caroline is also one of the few “go to” disciplinary lawyers in Scotland for doctors and dentists in particular, and for professionals generally. She advises professionals via all of the main UK medical and dental defence organisations on regulatory and professional disciplinary issues looking after their jobs, their professional registration, their reputations and careers.
