Rhona McKerracher is a Senior Associate within BTO’s top-ranked Personal Injury team and works exclusively with our insurance clients in personal injury (defence).

Rhona is experienced in the investigation and defence of all types of personal injury claims, including motor, employers’ liability, public liability and occupiers’ liability claims.  Her caseload involves high value and complex personal injury court actions, including catastrophic and fatal claims.

She regularly deals with claims involving spinal injury, head/brain injuries, severe orthopaedic injuries, psychiatric injuries and amputations. She has also developed a particular interest in cases involving potential fraud or exaggeration.

Rhona’s caseload involves work in the Court of Session, the All-Scotland Sheriff Personal Injury Court and the local Sheriff Courts.   She provides training regularly to insurers and other external insurance contacts and works hard to deliver high quality advice and service to our clients.

Experience

  • Successful opposition to the competency of a Pursuer’s Offer lodged by the pursuer’s agents whilst proceedings were before the Inner House of the Court of Session
  • Secured a 97% deduction on the sum sued for in a case raised for almost £1million where the pursuer had significantly exaggerated the impact of an otherwise genuine injury.
  • Completed 2 periods of secondment with a major international insurer.
