Alistair is a Senior Associate and Solicitor Advocate within BTO’s Insurance Litigation team.

Since qualifying in 2008, he has acted in personal injury actions. For 4 years he was an agent acting for pursuers and since 2012, he has specialised in the defence of personal injury actions, including employer’s liability, occupier’s liability, public liability, motor claims and occupational stress.

He regularly provides advice to clients and colleagues in the capacity of a Solicitor Advocate.

In addition to his extensive experience in relation to all aspects of personal injury work, including the defence of claims raised at the Court of Session and Sheriff Court, he is also experienced in dealing with claims involving contractual disputes.

Alistair is a Notary Public.

Experience

  • Assisting in a high value claim where the pursuer suffered life-changing injuries when hit by a tractor.
  • Through thorough investigations, limiting substantially the value of a claim where the pursuer suffered a serious lower-limb injury.
  • Obtaining a disapplication of QOCS with an award of expenses against the pursuer’s agent in favour of the defender.
  • Obtaining an award of expenses for a defender in a hearing where senior counsel acting for the pursuer argued that the defender should bear responsibility for substantial costs incurred by the pursuer to another party to the action.
