Biography
James is an Associate in our Professional Liability team. James was admitted as a solicitor in 2011 having studied law at the University of Edinburgh. Prior to qualification James spent two years working as a Legal Assistant at the Judicial Studies Committee, before training at a specialist litigation firm in Glasgow.
At BTO, James currently handles a number of professional liability claims on behalf of solicitors, acting through the Law Society of Scotland's professional indemnity insurers. He also regularly acts for surveyors, architects, engineers and other construction professionals. James has experience of handling litigation in the Court of Session and the Sheriff Court. He has been involved in the defence of complex and high value court actions and has wide experience in a range of professional, commercial and regulatory matters. He is also a Notary Public.
James tutors on both the Contract & Unjustified Enrichment and Commercial Law courses at the University of Edinburgh Law School and holds a Masters Degree (LL.M.) in Professional Legal Practice focusing on professional negligence. He is also a part-time Teaching Fellow and lecturer at the University of Edinburgh Business School teaching the Business Law course for 2nd and 3rd year accounting students.
