The Fatal Injuries in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing in Great Britain Report 2020/2021

05 August 2021

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) published a Report in relation to workplace fatalities in the agricultural sector on 19 July 2021. This sector remains the worst industrial sector for fatalities.

Figures from April 2020 to March 2021 show that 41 people died as a result of agriculture related injuries. This is almost double the number of similar fatalities recorded in the previous year in this industry.

Policyholders should be mindful of the five most common causes of fatal injuries identified in the Report being – pedestrian/vehicle segregation, animals, machinery and objects and falls from height.

HSE Inspector Adrian Hodkinson has advised that the agriculture sector will be a priority for HSE moving forward, with a view to improving behaviour and practices and reducing fatalities.
