Karen is a Solicitor Advocate with extended rights of audience in the Supreme Court, Privy Council and the Court of Session. She was admitted as a solicitor in 2000 and has specialised in litigation throughout her legal career.
She deals with claims in both the Court of Session and Sheriff Court, including personal injury actions, medical negligence, commercial litigation, contractual disputes, property disputes, debt recovery, interdict, appeals, and Judicial Review. Her personal injury cases have included RTAs, employers’ liability claims, including industrial diseases, as well as public liability cases.
Karen has a thorough knowledge of the practice and procedure in the Court of Session, having acted in a wide variety of cases both directly and as Edinburgh agent throughout her career. She has also appeared regularly in Sheriff Courts on behalf of both pursuers and defenders.
In addition, Karen has acted in a number of applications under the Adults with Incapacity legislation for appointments of personal welfare and financial guardians. She also prepares guardian suitability reports for such applications.
Karen’s main clients have included various local authorities and she has considerable experience in advising on their specific legal requirements. She has pursued and defended all types of court action on their behalf, including re-possession actions, anti-social behaviour orders, applications under the Adults with Incapacity legislation, interdict actions, licensing appeals and Judicial Review.
