Jilly Petrie

Jilly is a Partner in the Construction and Engineering and Construction Related Insurance teams who is developing a strong reputation in both the Scottish and wider UK market in respect of Scottish based disputes within these sectors.

A Partner since 2015, Jilly has already been ranked in the Chambers and Partners UK Guide as “Up and Coming” – one source commenting that she has a "very diligent and conscientious approach.” She has won praise for her technical ability and analytical and commercial approach to disputes and is known by clients for being personable and empathetic.

With an LLM in Construction Law, Jilly handles complex construction and engineering claims for insurers and their insureds, including developers/employers, consultants, contractors and subcontractors. She also advises clients on insurance policy interpretation and indemnity issues. Her recent experience includes acting for clients in claims involving damage to and caused by large construction projects, piling damage claims, roof failures, gable wall collapses, an environmental spillage and cases involving defective foundations.

On the contentious construction side, Jilly has a growing practice of clients for whom she acts in relation to disputes arising out of construction projects large and small, including payment, final account and extension of time disputes, as well as those regarding challenges to certification and construction defects.

Jilly represents clients in various forms of dispute resolution, including adjudication, mediation, expert determination and litigation.

She delivers training and presents seminars as part of the firm’s Insurance Seminar and the Construction and Engineering series and has recently presented on “The Duty to Warn – Whose Job is it?" at Lloyds of London as part of BTO’s Scottish Insurance Symposium; “Good Practice in Dealing with Construction Claims” and “Clause 6.5.1 Insurance – A claim without the blame?” to audiences of insurer and commercial clients.

“The level of service has always been excellent, with properly experienced solicitors dealing with appropriate cases" Legal 500
