David joined BTO’s busy Health and Safety, Regulatory and Criminal practice in June 2015 under the direction of Partners Clare Bone and Vikki Watt.
Prior to joining BTO, David practiced for 5 years at a Chambers and Legal 500 Band 1 ranked specialist criminal defence practice in Edinburgh.
Whilst practicing in Edinburgh, David built considerable advocacy experience appearing in criminal courts throughout Scotland defending clients in relation to a wide variety of offences, including those prosecuted at Sheriff and Jury level. David also has a wealth of experience preparing and instructing serious, complicated and high profile cases heard in the High Court, Appeal Court and Supreme Court. David’s caseload included several high profile ‘white-collar’ criminal cases, including cases involving the MOD, charities and household name financial institutions. These cases have involved complicated ‘paper trail’ evidence, international jurisdiction issues and money laundering; and proceeds of crime proceedings which followed. David also has expertise in the niche area of extradition requests from foreign jurisdictions and is noted in the reported case of Slovak Republic v Merica.
Since joining BTO, David has acted in relation to Fatal Accident Inquiries and Health and Safety/SEPA investigations/prosecutions. His clients include individuals and companies.
David regularly receives referrals from colleagues in private client/civil firms seeking expert representation for their clients in relation to criminal matters.
David is a member of the Health and Safety Lawyers Association.
