Karlin, Catherine M

Cath is a leading family and child law specialist and has been a pioneer for positive changes in Family Law.

Described as "extremely knowledgeable, strong and dynamic” and "accomplished in both financial proceedings and complex children matters" (Chambers UK), she is passionate about finding the most constructive outcomes for your family law dispute and offers straightforward, pragmatic advice. Cath firmly believes that you can divorce with dignity and is committed to helping you minimise the fallout to you and your children that divorce and separation so often brings.

Cath has all round expertise in all dispute resolution models from Court of Session and Sheriff Court litigation to Arbitration, Mediation and Collaborative Practice.

Her focus is on enabling her clients to make future focused decisions, helping them to tailor settlements to suit their own unique set of circumstances and providing commercial yet compassionate value driven advice.

Cath is accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in Family Law and has worked on numerous significant cases, often with an international dimension, with values up to £60 million.

She also specialises in complex child cases. Whilst Cath settles most of her cases out of court, she is a tenacious litigator when required.

Cath is a founder member of the Collaborative movement in Scotland and formerly represented Europe on the Board of The International Academy of Collaborative Professionals (IACP).

She is a fellow of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers IAML and a past board member of Relationships Scotland. She is a member of both The Scottish Family Law Association and Resolution in England.

Cath has also been instrumental in bringing Parenting after parting to Scotland and co-edited the legal section of the leading book in this field.

Cath, who is praised for her intelligence, focus and energy is listed in Chambers UK as “Efficient, astute and a good technician” and in The Legal 500 as a “leading light: professional, succinct and a pleasure to deal with.”
