Carly is a Partner and Solicitor Advocate who, along with Catherine Currie, heads up a team of eight lawyers dealing solely with high value, catastrophic injury and fatal claims. She has worked exclusively in the personal injury field for over 10 years. Her expertise is in dealing with cases involving injuries such as head/brain injury, severe spinal conditions, amputations, psychiatric and psychological disorders. She is also experienced at handling fatal claims having dealt with a significant number of those cases.
Clients describe Carly as "a combination of youth and intellect and exceptional soft skills". They comment that she is "proactive and has a great deal of experience" and that she is "diligent” and recognises the clients priorities (Chambers UK).
Carly is also part of the Marine, Energy & Ports team acting on behalf of international insurers and P&I Clubs in relation to personal injury actions including off shore incidents. Carly is experienced in dealing with jurisdictional and cross-border disputes throughout Europe and beyond and works closely with a global network of lawyers and experts to protect her clients’ position whilst offering proactive and cost effective advice.
Carly is routinely instructed at the outset of a claim, well before any litigation proceedings have commenced, and even prior to any claim having been formally intimated to provide advice and assistance to insurers on how best to protect their position in terms of not only the potential civil claim, but also as a liaison between the Police/HSE and the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service in terms of any potential prosecution and/or Fatal Accident Inquiry. She works closely with the Health & Safety Team on cases which do result in prosecution utilising the information obtained to assist proactive management and either repudiation of or settlement of any civil claims arising from the same incident.
As a result of being instructed at the outset of a case Carly is able to intervene early and assist clients with the investigation and analysis of both liability and quantum. She also works closely with her clients to develop a strategy to enable the case to progress to a satisfactory conclusion.
Carly is a member of The Forum of Insurance Lawyers (FOIL) and is the Scottish representative on the Rehabilitation Sector Focus Team. She is also a member of the Law Society of Scotland, The Health & Safety Lawyers Association (HSLA) and the Society of Solicitor Advocates
