Agreement has been reached between Scottish independent law firms Levy & McRae and bto solicitors for the transfer of Levy & McRae's corporate team to bto.

Andrew is renowned for his expertise in the SME / private company sector. At bto, he will continue to act in share purchase transactions, business sales and purchases, boardroom and shareholder disputes, and commercial contract arrangements. An accredited specialist in insolvency law, Andrew is well known for his corporate recovery experience and will be a valuable resource in bto’s insolvency and corporate recovery team led by partner Dorothy Hatfield, who is well-respected for insolvency work.
Andrew also brings a new service, sports law, to bto’s portfolio of legal advice. Andrew’s involvement in some of the most high profile issues in the worlds of football, golf and boxing has provided him with wide ranging experience in this legal field. In addition, having advised some of Scotland’s best known distillers, extensive knowledge of the whisky sector gives Andrew’s credentials a further edge.
Gary has practised law in Scotland, London and Dubai, and has experience of a wide range of corporate and commercial matters in a variety of jurisdictions, including numerous cross-border mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures. Gary's clients include SMEs / private companies, publicly listed companies and private equity funds, across a number of different sectors. Gary also has expertise in sports law, particularly in relation to football and golf.
Commenting on these developments at bto, Chairman Alan Borthwick said:
“Andrew and Gary are top class lawyers and we are very pleased to have them join bto’s team. Their proven track record in a wide range of corporate transactions, across a number of sectors in Britain and abroad, will be a great asset to the firm and of invaluable benefit to bto’s clients.
Andrew’s familiarity with many facets of whisky operations from a legal perspective will also enhance bto’s existing position in the whisky sector where bto already advises several accomplished brands.
This recruitment closely follows our move in July to larger office premises at One Edinburgh Quay where we are actively seeking to recruit new personnel. We are excited about the future and look forward to working with Andrew, Gary and Craig.”
Bill Macreath, senior partner of Levy & McRae commented: “Andrew Sleigh, Gary Booth and their corporate team go with the firm's best wishes to bto, a larger practice better able to provide the scale of corporate support required, given the market’s recovery.
Levy & McRae shall continue to work closely with Andrew, Gary and their team going forward when they are established in their new roles at bto.”
