Description:

Keynote Speaker: Ian Honeyman, Commercial Director, Scottish Building Federation

“While technical advances within the industry are moving at great speed, are prevailing cultural attitudes putting the brakes on us achieving all that we want from a modern and dynamic construction industry in Scotland?”

Ian will consider this question in light of his experiences following the Scottish Building Federation being awarded a contract to support the creation of a Collaborative Leadership Framework bespoke for the construction industry.

New SBCC 2016 Construction Contracts
Ann O’Connell, Consultant, BTO Solicitors LLP, Accredited Specialist in Construction Law, Chair of SBCC Drafting Sub-Committee

The SBCC 2016 contracts will be released from late summer 2016 on a family by family basis. Ann will give an overview of the significant changes.

Opportunities from the world of tax
Scott Craig, Partner, Scott-Moncrieff

In a world where every tax message seems to highlight issues or risks, Scott will explain the tax opportunities that could be obtained from Brexit and existing tax rules. He will provide examples of circumstances that often result in unbudgeted tax costs, changes that could affect the construction and property sectors and will explore what can be done to overcome them.

SEPA’s New Powers – What you need to know
Vikki Watt, Partner and Solicitor Advocate, BTO Solicitors LLP

From June 2016, the Regulatory Reform (Scotland) Act 2014 and Environmental Regulation (Enforcement Measures) (Scotland) Order 2015 have amended SEPA’s powers considerably. With any new legislation, the devil is in the detail. BTO’s Health & Safety team has seen an increase in requests for advice from construction companies in the wake of these new powers.

  • When will SEPA consider alternatives to prosecution?
  • What are those alternatives?
  • What are the advantages and disadvantages of self-reporting?

Vikki will provide a practical guide for those in the construction industry.
