Description:

***THIS SEMINAR IS NOW FULL***

Stress is, regrettably, an ever increasing common part of workplaces today. According to the Health and Safety Executive:

  • total number of cases of work related stress, depression or anxiety in 2015/16 was 488,000, amounting to 1510 incidents per 100,000 workers.
  • total number of working days lost due to this condition in 2015/16 was 11.7 million days- an average of 23.9 days lost per case.
  • in 2015/16, stress accounted for 37% of all work related ill health cases and 45% of all working days lost due to ill health

This session will consider what can happen when workplace stress is not managed properly and some of the legal and other risks that arise as a result. We are delighted to be joined by Rebecca Norris, who will provide practical guidance for employers on how to:

  • identify causes of stress in the workplace
  • minimise the incidence of stress in the workplace
  • manage stress at work.

A representative from BTO’s band 1 ranked personal injury team will also provide an overview of our recent experience of stress claims:

  • What kind of complaints of stress reach the courts?
  • What kind of financial losses can be claimed for?
  • What do employers have to provide by way of evidence to defend claims?
  • From a lawyer’s perspective, what makes it easier to defend a claim?
  • Tips on record keeping and what you have to do to successfully oppose claims will also be provided.

This session will be practical and identify positive steps employers can take to reduce risk in this area. Can you afford not to attend?
